Notre-Dame de Paris

Located on the Île de la Cité, right in the heart of Paris, Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the most iconic and visited monuments in the French capital. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, this cathedral fascinates visitors with its rich history, impressive design, and cultural significance.

Built between 1163 and 1345, Notre-Dame de Paris is a medieval masterpiece that has stood the test of time, witnessing many major historical events, such as the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804. Its majestic façade, famous gargoyles, colorful rose windows, and spire (unfortunately destroyed in the April 2019 fire) make it an exceptional site.

Even after the fire, the cathedral remains a must-see destination:

  • The west façade with its three sculpted portals depicting biblical scenes.

  • The towers of Notre-Dame, offering spectacular panoramic views of Paris (scheduled to reopen after restoration).

  • The rose windows, true masterpieces of stained glass dating back to the 13th century.

  • The cathedral’s treasury, housing precious relics.

  • The Île de la Cité around Notre-Dame is also a charming place for a stroll.

Notre-Dame is easily accessible from your stay at Hôtel Élysée Montmartre. Take Metro line 2 (direction Nation) to Barbès – Rochechouart station. Then transfer to line 4 (direction Mairie de Montrouge) to either Cité or Saint-Michel Notre-Dame. The cathedral is just a few minutes’ walk from there.

For the more athletic, the walk takes about 40 minutes from the hotel. You’ll pass through the vibrant neighborhoods of Montmartre, the Marais district, and cross the Seine, enjoying beautiful views.

Be sure to book your guided tour in advance, especially during peak season, to avoid queues and enjoy engaging historical explanations.

After a day of exploring Notre-Dame and the historic center, relax in the warm comfort and unique atmosphere of Hôtel Élysée Montmartre, ideally located to discover the treasures of Paris.
