“The Berlin Wall, a divided world”
To mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine is presenting an exceptional exhibition in Paris: “The Berlin Wall, A divided world”, on view until September 28, 2025.
More than 200 authentic objects, photos, videos, and moving testimonies retrace the history of this iconic symbol of the Cold War, which divided Berlin in two for 28 years.
Spread across two levels, the exhibition is organized into four thematic sections:
- Post-war geopolitical context and rise of ideological tensions
- Construction of the Wall in 1961 and propaganda strategies
- Parallel lives of Berliners on each side of the Wall
- Fall of the Wall in 1989 and the end of a divided world
Highlights include a 10-meter original section of the Berlin Wall displayed outside the museum, reconstructions of daring escape attempts, and the moving speech by Günter Schabowski that triggered the opening of the borders.
